"Batteries Not Included" in GeckoSystems' Mobile Robots

CONYERS, GA, Jul 21, 2009 (MARKETWIRE via COMTEX) -- GeckoSystems Intl. Corp. (PINKSHEETS: GCKO) explained their reasons today for not including batteries with their mobile robots in Part 1 of a four part discussion on "basebot technologies." GeckoSystems is a dynamic leader in the emerging Mobile Service Robot (MSR) industry revolutionizing their development and usage with their "Mobile Robot Solutions for Safety, Security, and Service™."

Basebot technologies are the power, locomotion, sensor and software requirements for cost effective, utilitarian mobile service robots (MSRs).

"We realized early on that due to the market demand by consumer products and electric/hybrid automobile development that batteries would be improving over the coming years. Consequently we made the decision to design in a standard battery compartment that would enable a range of battery technologies to be utilized in our mobile robot solutions. One of the most common battery sizes is Group 24 which is capable of 75-85 ampere hours of power storage, weigh 50-60 pounds, and is approximately 7" W x 9" H x 10.75" L in size. We originally prototyped using gel cell batteries frequently used in electric wheel chairs. Due to advances in Absorbed Glass Mat (AGM) batteries, we now use them for better performance," observed Martin Spencer, President/CEO, GeckoSystems.

AGM batteries' main advantages are no maintenance; completely sealed against fumes, hydrogen, or leakage; non-spilling even if they are broken; and can survive most freezes.

"Further, due to the weight of batteries with sufficient capacity to power our CareBots™ for 12-20 hours, providing batteries would incur significant logistic and shipping costs that can be minimized using the existing battery distribution infrastructure for electric wheel chairs, etc. Hence we are battery agnostic as to whether the user purchases sealed lead acid, gel cell, AGM, or any of the much higher cost Lithium Ion, or Lithium Poly batteries. We will require our authorized dealers to provide a variety of cost effective battery solutions for greater value to our customers and increased ROI for our stockholders," concluded Spencer.
